The college board nominated me for the rural and small town national recognition award though, which is pretty cool. I am class president, chaplain of the Leo's club, member of student council, and founder and president of cs club. I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, Uveitis, and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis my sophomore year, which made me miss many days of school, including psat testing that year also. My SAT is very low with a 1360 and only 660 in math. I have no experience coding except for the fact that I am the founder and president of my school's computer science club. Only 1 AP is offered and no computer science courses. I attend a small rural school and am ranked 1/20 with a 4.0 gpa. Im so sorry if this has been asked a lot, but I'm very nervous. I'll have 32 credits done by the end of this semester, is there a specific term I should eye to apply for? How can I determine which classes I should be taking from here on out? I'm not going to put too much personal investment into this dream since I am keenly aware of my low chances, but what can I do now to make those chances a little more realistic? My original plan was to take an extra semester and just go to UH, but since I've changed my mind, I know that transferring of credits to rice is far less straightforward.

I was part-time for my first year at hcc, which I know won't look great on a rice application.

I'm highly confident I can raise that score and my GPA quite a bit, but how can someone trying to turn things around in his life hope to compete with kids a couple of years younger who managed to get it right the first time? I'm having trouble forming a long-term game plan here. I took the SAT once before college and got 1350, still nothing special by rice standards. I started doing better in college, and am holding a 3.5 as it stands. My stats are absolutely nothing to write home about. I want to major in mechanical engineering. There are many things about the university that appeal to me and I find that what I had as a far-fetched idea a few weeks ago becomes more serious to me by the day. I am now in my second year (third semester overall) at HCC, and I've recently found myself drawn to rice. I performed relatively horrendously in high school, graduating with a 2.7 GPA (Granted, covid and years of being ravaged by mental illness and poor decisions played a part, but it's not like I'm unique in that area). I'll try and keep my long story as short as I can.
